Interview with Maggie Mundy

Susana: What inspired you to start writing?

Maggie: I went to university as a mature age student and studied Drama. We were asked to write a one person one act play. It’s still on my computer. I really enjoyed the experience and thought I want to do this. I went on to study English and since then have not stopped writing.

Susana: How long have you been writing?

maggiemundyMaggie: About ten years on and off. A lot of the early years were spent getting stories down and learning my craft. I couldn’t imagine living a life without writing anymore.

Susana: What advice would you give to writer just starting out?

Maggie: Bum glue. Get some to keep your butt on the seat and write. That aside, find a good critique partner. Go to conferences and mix with likeminded people. Join associations Like Romance Writers of America/Australia.  Read books on writing and read in general.

Susana: Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Maggie: Plotter. I know most people tend to be pantsers but I like to know where I am going with a rough outline. That does not mean that I don’t have epiphanies along the way that change everything.

Susana: Are you working on something at present that you would like to tell us about?

Maggie: I am working on the second book in the series. It is called World Apart. It is set on another world where the land is slowly being consumed by a mysterious fog. Some of the characters from the first book continue their journey whilst others discover love in another world as they keep making their way back to Earth.

Susana: What are you reading now?

Maggie: I am reading the Blackdagger Brotherhood series by J.R Ward. These guys are to die for. Love a sexy vamp.

Susana:  What author or authors have most influenced your writing?

Maggie: Jane Austen. I have read all her books more than once. I love the romance, but also the fact that they were a social commentary on the time when she lived. Sarah Dunant. Her book The Birth of Venus is beautifully written and has a story that draws you in from chapter one. Again you learn so much about 14th century Italy where the book was set. It inspired me for the setting on my alternate world in World Change.

Susana: What is your writing schedule like when writing?

Maggie: Because I work I fit writing in when I can. I like to try and write everyday even if it’s just a few hundred words. Remember what I said about bum glue?

Susana: What did you want to be when you grew up?

Maggie: A policewoman but I was too short and half blind. I finally ended up nursing. What I truly love being is a writer.

Cover_World ChangeShe turned to run but he was on top of her, pinning her to the ground. She held her breath too frightened to breathe. With the moonlight behind him, his face was in shadow. He sniffed her then ran the tip of his tongue down her cheek to her neck. Clare swallowed as she struggled to breathe. Her heart beat so fast she could feel it through her chest. If he was going to bite her, then maybe this drunken illusion would be over. He didn’t bite her. She could feel his fangs as he ran them up and down her neck. Where they touched, her skin tingled. He licked the blood away and the pain eased where her skin had been pierced by the spear. The calming thoughts of before were returning. She should be fighting him but it was the furthest thing from her mind. He was turning her on and she could feel the ache between her legs as his tongue swirled on her neck.

“Go ahead, do what you have to do. Maybe it will bring reality back.”

He didn’t bite her. Instead he trailed kisses from her neck to her lips. She should push him away but she opened to him. His cool tongue probing. He tasted sweet. Clare had never thought herself into erotic fantasy, but she felt an irresistible attraction to this man she was finding hard to control. Her tongue entered his mouth searching for his fangs. They scratched her tongue and she heard him groan as a sweet taste entered her mouth. It was at that moment her world became dark.
