Sabrina York: Snow Angels

About Snow Angels

The last thing Wade Masters wants on his month-long getaway to his sister’s wilderness cabin is company. A wounded warrior, Wade is looking for complete isolation to deal with the tragedy of his life and his screaming guilt.

But company he gets, in the form of Lyssa Salk, a spunky, diminutive massage therapist. Who says she can talk to dead people.

Trapped together in the snowbound cabin, Wade and Lyssa have little else to do but help each other heal, spiritually, physically and sexually.

He probably stayed in the shower too long; the water was turning tepid. But Wade didn’t care. He stepped out and dried off, ruffling his hair with the fluffy towel. He tried to ignore the pink hearts. But it was either pink hearts or Hello Kitty.

He resolved, if he ever visited this cabin again, he would bring his own towels. Something manly.

SY_Snow Angels_SM copyCamo maybe.

A sharp series of barks brought his head up with a snap.

Bo.

Bo rarely barked, and then only at a threat.

Wade snapped into gear, wrapping the towel around his waist and stopping in the bedroom to grab his pistol. He’d seen bear tracks and scat on his run and though it was the middle of winter, he knew they could come out of hibernation. They’d been known to break into cabins if they smelled food.

His heart leapt into his throat at the thought of Bo facing a hungry five-hundred pound beast with no protection.

Towel flapping, he pounded down the short hall into the great room of the cabin, expecting the worst. He stopped in his tracks.

Yeah.

It was the worst.

Not a bear.

But an even greater predator.

There, pressed up against the door, cornered by his snarling protector, be-speckled with snow and clutching a mangy backpack, was a woman.

He could tell she was a woman, even though she wore about six coats, one on top of the other, and a knit hat pulled down over her ears. Long black hair escaped from the cap, trailing over her shoulders. But it was the eyes that gave her away, wide and round and fringed with thick lashes. And her chin. It was delicate, dimpled, quivering. Her lips were parted. Her exquisite face pale.

Bo glanced back at him as if crowing, look what I caught! And then edged forward with an ominous growl.

The girl clutched her backpack closer and issued a panicked little peep. She tried to press back into the door, making herself as tiny as she could, but there was no give.

Besides, she was tiny enough.

Like a woodland sprite.

He would have thought her a fairy come in from the woods if he’d had a hint of whimsy in him. And if she hadn’t been wearing everything she owned. He didn’t know much about fairies, but he was pretty sure they had some fashion sense.

Bo’s growl became a snarl, a snap, and the girl warbled a wail. “Please!” she cried. “Call him off!”

Wade snapped his fingers, fully expecting Bo to heel. He’d been methodically trained by a world-renown expert. He always behaved.

He did not.

His hackles rose and he took another menacing step toward the girl. A tear tracked down her cheek. Her entire body shook. “P-please!”

“Bo! Fuß!” The command to heel in the language he’d learned as a puppy, penetrated and Bo licked his muzzle, gave a canine whine and padded to Wade’s side. “Braver Hund.” Wade riffled the scruff of Bo’s beck and gave him a scratch. “Good dog.”

The girl collapsed against the door, but her attention did not waver from Bo, whose hackles were still up. Wade didn’t understand his dog’s reaction. He’d always been friendly to strangers before, more likely to whap them to death with his tail than to so much as growl. But then his gaze fell on the small cage at the girl’s feet and he froze. He could see a hint of the creature inside and he suddenly understood.

Hell.

She had a cat.

Perfect.

Not only was his solitude shattered by an unwanted female guest, a bedraggled homeless ragamuffin, she’d brought a cat.

Damn.

He hated cats.

About A Class Act (Class in Session, Book 2)

Released November 7, 2014

Barry Kellam receives a mysterious invitation from 1Night Stand and can’t imagine who would arrange a night of sexual passion with him…except perhaps a former student who’s gone on to greater things.

Paul Merrill is the toast of Broadway. While the awards and fame are nice, he wants to  share his success—and his body—with the man who inspired him. But Dr. Kellam isn’t  one to date fellow faculty or alumni. Will he answer Madame Eve’s call?

Excerpt

A-Class-Act-200x300 copyThe fleeting idea that Paul Merrill was somewhere else in Manhattan right now set a chill in his heart. Maybe some billionaire in disguise arranged this, like a super-rich parent he met at an open house who misinterpreted a handshake as a come-on. He shook away the ridiculous notion as the elevator floor vibrated. The ideas ballooned like fantastic movie plots, not unlike the one that would make Paul a household name.

At Room 2401, his hand trembled and it took three tries to get the green light. “Room” hardly described his quarters for the night. 1Night Stand appropriated them with a lavish suite with wide panel windows revealing Times Square in its explosive, mega-watt glory. The waving red lines of the story-high Coca-Cola ad mesmerized him, but only momentarily as he fought to keep his bearings. If his date was here, he was probably in another part of the suite.

The bedroom, no doubt. He swallowed back his nerves, inhaled, and stepped deeper into the living area. Large, suede sofas faced a wall-sized entertainment system. The wet bar looked better stocked than an actual restaurant. Barry’s mouth watered for a shot of vodka.

“Dr. Kellam!”

Barry’s heart jolted and his direction whipped to the left toward the approaching figure. “Paul, thank God it’s you.”

About A Different Class (Book 1)

ADifferentClass3_500x750 copyFDR High Class of 2004 graduate, Glenn Carson contacts fellow alumni to get a list of who will be attending the upcoming festivities. One call to a disgruntled former student leaves him shaken—apparently, not everyone is looking forward to the reunion. Hoping to ease his frustration, he contacts the 1Night Stand service for a relaxing and passionate encounter.

Known as “Mumbles” to former classmates, Rod Maloney would prefer to focus on the present and his successful business. However, past tragedies continue to haunt him, so he requests Madame Eve find him a man to show him a hot time and help him forget his troubles.

Will their one night together lead to a reunion after all?

About the Author

I am Leigh Ellwood. I write smutty stories about people who like getting naked and having sex. Some have more sex than others, some have sex with people of the same gender, some have sex with more than one person, and still others have sex with toys and things that require the use of batteries. My stories range from a few thousand words to well past 70k.

I have won awards for writing, and I have received 5-star reviews. I have also received 1-star reviews and people have looked at me funny at cons and events. I enjoy reading, yoga, and rock music. I liked the 9th Doctor best. I don’t wear dresses. I won’t cut my hair or color it. I will not limit myself to one genre when it comes to writing. I write contemporary, paranormal, gay, lesbian, menage, geek, short, long, purposely funny and hilariously sad. If I never win a major award or make a list, I will live content in the fact that I have written something, and that’s the dream.

Research for Novels

Doing the research for your books can be fun. You learn a lot of stuff that’s interesting, and a lot of stuff that might bore you to tears. Sometimes I’m shocked at what I find. Sometimes I already knew what pops up on my screen or in a research book. Some things I share with my family and friends, and some things I learn I’m planning to take to the grave with me.

Most authors will have to do a bit of research for their books, whether they want to or not. I write fiction only, but my readers still want the facts straight. I know there are readers who know all about weapons. A beta reader informed me once it wasn’t possible to fire a weapon the way I’d described in one scene. I went back into research mode, found what I needed, and made the changes.

One beta reader wanted to know how a heroine could have the injuries I described, but turn around a few days later and have wild monkey sex. Another change I made after more research on the injuries my heroine suffered. Do the research up front and you’ll have less embarrassing critiques from test readers.

I’ve written a historical romance and the post-civil war history fascinated me. I’m pretty sure I spent as much time reading about the time period as I spent writing the book. I think my research has made me much smarter. I know more things about random subjects than I did before I began writing. I can actually answer trivia questions every now and then.

Through my exploration of the drug trade, I learned exactly how brave the DEA, FBI, ATF, and other alphabet agencies operatives are. They risk their lives every day in an effort to stamp out the illegal drug industry. I have a new respect for them.

My biggest shock while researching? I was googling everything I could find on the prostitution business in Las Vegas. The next thing I knew, my inbox became flooded with porno sites and offers. Imagine the look on my hubby’s face when I asked him how I could keep the stuff from landing in my inbox. He brought his IT guy from his office over and had him install better anti-virus security. Did I mention the IT guy and his wife were good friends of ours or that both of their fathers were preachers? I’m sure he loved seeing the results of my research plastered all over my email.

In spite of the embarrassment, I still do the research no matter what the subject. I’m sure I’m on the NSA’s watch list somewhere. I’ve explored ways to kill people, special ops protocols, and even ways to breach the No-Fly zone in D.C.

But, at least I’m not getting all the porno emails anymore!

Resolutions1600x2400Mac shrugged right back at her. “I’ve got a news flash for you, Eve. I’m going back to San Carlos Lucas with you.”

“This is an IDEA operation. My assignment. And Rex’s. We can do our jobs.”

Mac smiled. “Not anymore, baby. Your boss hired Resolutions to get you back into the Mendoza compound. More specifically, he wants me for the job.”

“Why would I need you?” Her face reddened. “Rex and I had no problem getting past the compound walls before.”

“Are you kidding? Your team lost a man, you were captured, and almost died yourself.” He wanted to shake some sense into her. “You call that no problems?”

“I meant we infiltrated the compound without incident. I’ll make sure we get out safely this time.”

“It’s gonna be harder.” Mac wished she would listen to reason, but he knew Eve, and nothing he said would change her mind once she made it up. “After you and your team breached the compound, Mendoza doubled his security force. Chances are good you won’t be able to retrieve the hidden flash drive. Getting back inside the study—if you need another go at his computer—will be a bigger challenge. I’m the only guy who can get you past all the extra security.”

“Oh, pa-leeease! What have you got that I don’t have?

He looked at his ever-present-around-Eve hard-on and smiled sheepishly. “Well, baby, if I need to expla—”

About the Author

MEDIA KIT teri.riggs_ copyTeri Riggs was destined to be a writer.  As a small girl she didn’t read bedtime stories, she made up her own.  Who needed Little Red Riding Hood or The Three Little Pigs when there were so many great tales bouncing around in her head?  When she grew up and became a mother to three little girls, she continued the tradition of making up bedtime stories.  On the occasions she chose to tell conventional fairytales, Teri usually gave them a bit of tweaking here and there or added a new ending.  Her girls loved it.

After her daughters had the nerve to actually grow up and leave home, Teri discovered she had a passion for writing and jumped right in.  It came as no surprise she chose to write mysteries and happily-ever-after’s since that’s the genres she loves to read.

Teri lives in Marietta, Georgia with her husband, one of her daughters and two dogs that seem to think they rule the world.  And some days Teri thinks maybe they do.

Teri still frequently tells herself stories as she falls asleep.  The only difference now is she wakes up the next morning and turns her bedtime stories into books.

Author Layla Chase Interviews Cowboy Garth Rutger of “Setting Boundaries” + GIVEAWAY

I’m glad to be here today and share an interview with the brooding hero of my cowboy ménage story, Setting Boundaries, published by Decadent Publishing.

How about you introduce yourself by providing the basics?

Garth Rutger

Did you grow up here in Texas?

Yep, I’m eighth generation in Texas. My ancestors came as part of the Old 300 with Austin in 1824. They made the required land improvements and even picked up one of the forfeited tracks. When farms started to outnumber the ranches, they moved west and ended up northwest of San Angelo.

Did you always want to be a rancher?

Ever since my daddy put me on the back of a horse. Mama has a picture of me and I couldn’t have been two years old yet. Hard to buck the heritage of six generations of Rutgers owning the Triple R ranch.

What do you like most about ranching?

The horses, the openness of the land, being my own boss.

Talk about your favorite setting for a date.

Screw the setting. Has everything to do with the woman.

What attracts you first to a woman?

Different attributes at different ages. When I was young, I was hog-wild for tits and ass. Then I explored wild sex. Now I appreciate a woman’s inner strength and how she works to hang on to what’s important.

Are you talking about a particular woman?

Oh yeah. Trixy’s been the only woman for me since our first dance in high school. She hasn’t always been as sure of that fact but I’m about to convince her of where she belongs. And enjoy myself in the negotiations because that woman has kept her hot body and I’m itching to make it mine.

SettingBoundariesMedExcerpt

Maintaining only a few inches of space between them, he walked in a circle around her. His green-eyed stare drew her in and she couldn’t look away.

“Did you grant me a dance at the Harvest Festival last fall?”

She moved her head, following his predatory stalking. “I did not.”

“Thought not.” He reversed direction and tightened, easing closer and brushing his knee against her thigh.

Blood pounded in her ears and she swallowed hard. Against all logic, arousal built and her nipples tightened into peaks.

“And my dinner invitation a couple months back?”

“I refused it.”

“Exactly.” With a flick of his hand, he tipped her hat and cupped the back of her head, holding her immobile. “Rejection back in high school and rejection now.”

“Shit, Garth, you’re talking years in the past. So you’re refusing to share water as revenge?” She pressed her hands against his chest and pushed hard, but his grip wouldn’t budge.

He narrowed his eyes into slits and his nostrils flared. “Do you deny you’ve given me cause?”

How to fight a choice she made half a lifetime ago? She’d dated Garth for six months before Dave’s family moved to town. Every girl tried to catch the eye of the new guy, but she’d succeeded. Little had she known that laid back, fun-loving Dave would turn into a lazy husband who expected her to shoulder most of the ranch work. Anything not related to rodeo held little of his interest.

Until his last bull ride changed her life forever.

“No.” With that single whispered word, she closed her eyes and dipped her chin. Hopefully, she’d stomach living with herself after tonight’s surrender. “I agree to your offer.”

“Louder.” Garth’s voice growled in her ear as he tangled his fingers in her hair. Lifting a handful, he inhaled.

The rasp in his voice made her shiver. “I agree. One night of sex for the water.”

“Hot, unforgettable sex.” With a chuckle, he loosened his grasp. Moving away, he set his feet shoulder-width apart and crossed both arms over his chest. “Except that was yesterday’s deal.”

About the Author

On a dare from a close friend, Layla Chase challenged herself to explore the steamier side of romance and discovered all sorts of characters whose stories needed sharing. She writes contemporary and historical stories from her mountain home in California that she shares with long-time husband and two dogs.

Guest Interview: Author Wendy Burke

Today I have the pleasure of speaking with author Wendy Burke. Thanks for taking time to talk with us today, Wendy.

To start, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Sure! Thanks for having me, first off! I’m a born & bred Cheesehead, displaced for the past nearly 30 years to the Land of Buckeyes! I’ve been writing all my life, and thankfully was able to be published —I was having a hard time figuring out what to do with all those ‘voices in my head’! When not playing with the people in my head, I’m a TV producer and I also work part-time in radio, which is really my true calling.

Could you tell readers about your new release?

WB_Wise Men Say_smMy latest release, Wise Men Say, pays slight homage to my hometown of Sheboygan, Wisconsin and the many, many hours I spent sledding there when I was a kid. I can’t tell you for sure where the basis of the story came from, but for some reason unknown to me, there are plenty of Elvis references! This is my third 1NightStand story through Decadent Publishing and my  fourth published work overall.

What is the most interesting thing you’ve done in the name of research?

I spent nine weeks taking a Citizens’ Police Academy Class through the Toledo, OH Police Department. Very interesting. Next thing on my research ‘bucket list,’ an autopsy!—when I have the time!

If you could pick any celebrity to be on the cover of your book, who would it be and why?

For those who really know me—they know the answer; for those who don’t, well, Russell Crowe. The man has so many, many faces and he’s so applicable to my characters. He’s the basis for the main character in Haste Ye Back. This is definitely my ‘Ian’ in the story. Then, he’s also my ‘Ty’ in another story I’m working on, and ‘Mike’ in a third. Each ‘face’ is different…but it’s all Russell!

TY4smIan1smMIKEsm

What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

I write ‘inside out.’ I can only think of one story where the first line came to me and I went from there —The One He Chose. For the most part a scene might come to me, and it could be the ‘middle’ of a story and I go outwards from that point. I’m a ‘panster’ in the truest sense of the word…no outlines, no notes, no nothing. I just write.

What’s the most interesting obscure fact you know?

That the State Fish of Hawaii is the Humuhumunukanukaapua’a…and I can pronounce it! Although, recently the name has been shortened to Humuhumu or in English, the Rectangular Triggerfish.

What writing project are you currently working on?

Right now, I’m busy promoting Wise Men Say; however, I need to finish a little story called For Me. It’s part of a total of six overlapping stories fellow Decadent author, Deanna Wadsworth, and I are working on for the 1NightStand Series. In order they are: Bear It All by Deanna, The One He Chose by me, Accidentally Beautiful, Deanna, and Haste Ye Back by yours truly. Deanna has the next one ready, so I really need to get For Me and about six others in various stages of completion done! (Not enough hours in the day!)

Is there anything else you would like to add today?

I have a copy of Wise Men Say for one lucky person. Just email me: wendyburke1994@bex.net by midnight Dec. 30th, and one person will win an e-copy of the book!

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions for us today!

Wise Men Say Description:

More than twenty years ago, Emmy Patterson kissed her fiancé for the last time. Despite bad news from U.S. military services, to this day she has reasons to hold on to hope he’s alive and celebrates his life every chance she gets.

Her family, however, thinks her partly crazed, unable to grasp the reasoning behind her perpetual optimism.

Called on a business trip to promote her glass artwork, she spends the winter holidays in Las Vegas.  Is this chance travel to the The Castillo in Vegas a coincidence, or does the wise Madame Eve know ‘some things’ were meant to be?

Wise Men Say Excerpt:

Usually after so much time in the cold, she’d be tired but instead she tossed and turned.

Office of the Pentagon.

Why did that have to come today?

“Dammit.” Getting out of bed, she went to her closet. Dragging out a step stool, she reached for the box tucked in the furthest corner of the shelving. She got a hand on the container, and with reverence, she slipped it from its resting place. Careful, it’s almost all you have left of him.

Cross-legged on her mattress, with the linens and comforter bunched about her, she smoothed a small area and placed the box there. She slipped off its lid. Inside sat a flat, vacuum-packed plastic bag holding a near-ratty sweatshirt. The word Navy printed on the front, faded and close to illegible, the article of clothing had seen many washings.

But, yet, it hadn’t been washed in twenty years.

Removing the shirt from the bag, she placed it in her lap where she stroked the decade’s old piece of clothing. Closing her eyes, she remembered Nick’s solid biceps filling out the jersey fabric, his well-cut pectorals curving the front. Slipping a hand into the pullover’s opening, she imagined his flat, muscled tummy meeting her touch and her finger tracing a dark trek of cottony down.

She smiled, seeing his salacious grin in return, while his hand grasped hers, willing it further into his boxers.

“Where are you, Nicky?”

Stretching out, she kept the sweatshirt close to her face. It irritated her that she could barely discern his scent considering she’d taken such care to retain it.

He filled her mind. Sure, she had photo upon photo of him, of them together, but those images captured not the essence of her Nick; his kindness, loyalty, dedication to her and to his country, and of course, the physical memories. She cursed herself, reaching far back into her memory, trying to extract the sound of his voice. Would I even recognize it if I heard it?

“I miss you, Nicky….”

She clutched the one remaining possession of her fiancé and cried herself to sleep.
